An independent agent works for the restaurant owner. We do not work for any insurance company. A “captive agent” works for one specific company. Their job is to sell that company’s policies, whether it’s best for that client or not.

I research all the carriers that I work with before I even place $1 of business with them to make sure they are “A”rated and that they pay their claims in a reasonable time frame.
I keep an eye on the market. I see what’s changing. If a new carrier comes in, and they are undercutting everybody else, I don’t rush to place everybody’s insurance with them.
I keep an eye on them to make sure that they are a carrier that I want to place my clients with.
I have a good rule of thumb. If I wouldn’t place my business with a carrier, I’m not going to place my client’s business with a carrier.
